A Christmas spin along the beach
Flight info 24-12-2022 DEP/EHRD ARR/EHRD PH-SPZ 1:25 hrs 114 NM RMK/none
Now don’t worry about the title, we did not actually do a spin.
My mom and I took the PH-SPZ out for a final flight of 2022. We had a blast flying along the beach, seeing all the seaside towns and cities: The Hague, Katwijk, Noordwijk, Scheveningen, Zandvoort, IJmuiden, and so on.
North of the Amsterdam CTR we turned west, where we saw the weather front containing some rain that was moving north. It’s nice when the weather forecast matches the actual conditions, no?
We also saw some big planes turn in to land in Amsterdam. Due to the airspace structure, we are never going to get close to them, but it looks like we are nearly in the same airspace. I always think it’s really spectacular to see. With a bit of knowledge of the routes usually used by Amsterdam air traffic controllers to vector planes into the airport, it’s possible to guess when the plane will turn in, so I know when to look!
The Loosdrechtse Plassen were on our way back, and every time I fly past there I cannot help but check out Hilversum! I always try to spot it among the many green fields in that area.
Landed safely on 24. Merry Christmas!
